Ooznest Materials HIPS 3D Printer filament is widely used as a support material for ABS prints. Why ABS? The printing temperatures of the two 3D Printer filaments is practically identical, 245°C. HIPS stands for high impact polystyrene, it combines polystyrene and polybutadiene, making it a graft polymer.

WHAT MAKES HIPS DIFFERENT?

[divider width=”100%” height=”1px” margin=”0.5em” color=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”] [row] [col span=”6″ span__sm=”12″] From the combination of the two elements above, Ooznest Materials HIPS 3D Printer filament has the toughness of polystyrene with the strength and flexibility of polybutadiene. This can be seen in the numbers. An impact strength of 15kJ/m2 compared to PLA 3.4kJ/m2, it puts HIPS Filament right in the middle of ABS and PLA. However it has a high elongation at break, 50% compared to PLA (20%) and ABS (9%), making it in the higher range of flexibility from the Ooznest Materials range. When printed, HIPS give a super smooth matt finish, and can be machined, glued and sanded, why it is heavily used in the model making industry. In its own right HIPS is an underestimated material to print with. However as previously mentioned it is also a good support material. Having a high print temperature makes it comparable to other materials available. But the stand out factor is that is is dis-solvable in Limonene. Limonene is a lemon skin based solvent, simply leave the print submerged in Limonene for 24Hours with a few shakes in-between, and your support material is removed without any effort in site.
